LiveWire Construction completed the low voltage systems installation for the University of Chicago Medicine River East Outpatient Center, a state-of-the-art medical facility located at 355 East Grand Avenue in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood. Opened in February 2020, this two-story, 40,689-square-foot outpatient center brought together more than 30 medical specialties under one roof, consolidating two previously separate UChicago Medicine clinics into a single, modern downtown destination designed to deliver world-class academic medicine to Chicago’s Near North Side.
Designed by Perkins&Will with construction led by Turner Construction Company, the River East Outpatient Center represents University of Chicago Medicine’s first freestanding outpatient facility in the downtown area. The center offers primary care, urgent care, cardiology, cancer care, neurology, orthopedic surgery, dermatology, gastroenterology, and advanced diagnostic imaging including CT, MRI, mammography, and infusion therapy. LiveWire Construction’s low voltage work was essential to the facility’s integrated technology infrastructure, supporting the communications, life safety, security, and building automation systems that enable seamless patient care across dozens of specialty departments.
The University of Chicago Medicine River East Outpatient Center sits in Streeterville, one of Chicago's most storied neighborhoods, named after "Cap" Streeter, a colorful 19th-century figure who claimed a sandbar in Lake Michigan as his own sovereign territory and defied city and federal authorities for years.
